Just a quick post today letting all my clients and customers know that Get Fit With John Leary III has been officially approved as a retailer for the Swedish-based fitness apparel icon Better Bodies / GASP!
We will be retailing online thru a Shopify store that has already been set up and just waiting for products to be added. We plan on putting in our initial order sometime next week and once that is completed, I will start loading the store with products!
If you are familiar with this brand of fitness apparel, you already know it is the NUMBER ONE choice of fitness professionals. If you are not familiar with Better Bodies / GASP, run a search on Google and check it out …. BUT don’t buy anything yet….please wait until we are ready with the store opening!
Yesterday, I met with Hawaii’s newest IFBB Classic Physique professional bodybuilder Tae Moody (CONGRATS TAE!) and we will be supplying Tae with some of his fitness apparel as he marches on to professional competitions!

A few weeks ago, we took a look at a few reasons why regular exercise is so good for you….today, we’re going to take a deeper look.
Did you know that regular exercise helps maintain YOUR immune functioning? Your immune system is what protects you from infection and other chemical toxins! The immune system also plays a role in maintaining a healthy response to STRESS!
For many years, scientists talked about “immune senescence” as an inevitable result of aging...we now know that the studies showing these inevitable declines were conducted on people WHO DID NOT EXERCISE!
Even short-term exercise programs can reverse some of the deleterious effects of aging on this sensitive, complex & crucial regulatory system which controls so much of your EVERYDAY HEALTH!
Reduces body fat: Your BMI…or Body Mass Index…provides an approximate measure of your overall metabolic status. If YOU are in the overweight to obese categoriy now, a regular program of aerobic exercise can bring your BMI down to normal levels mainly by swapping the fat for the fat-free tissues in your body.
The GOOD NEWS is that the more you exercise, the more you are able to work off your body fat because muscle “burns off” more calories, effectively speeding up your metabolism!

Today we’re going to look at the top 5 reasons to hire a certified personal trainer…and in this case, that would be yours truly!
To avoid injury: if you are new to exercise or find that some movements are painful, it’s worth hiring a trainer to make sure you are moving in a safe & effective way. Taking the time to learn the proper exercise technique will improve your results & prevent annoying, unnecessary injuries.
Motivation: having a trainer by your side can provide the encouragement, energy and motivation you need to jump-start your routine! A trainer will also help you set GOALS create a plan to accomplish them & celebrate the day you reach them!
Consistency: do you find it hard to stick with a program or habit? A trainer will hold you accountable and help you to overcome all the excuses you might use to avoid your commitment to exercise. It’s a lot harder to skip going to the gym when you know YOUR TRAINER is waiting for you!

Did you know that exercising regularly builds aerobic power? Ordinarily, folks lose about 1 percent a year of their aerobic power….or 10% per decade! (Your aerobic capacity is your body’s ability to work at maximum capacity by getting oxygen from the air to your body’s tissues). By the time you’re 50 years old, you’ve LOST 50% of your aerobic capacity – UNLESS YOU EXERCISE!
Exercise also helps in reducing your blood pressure, in part, by attacking the plaque in your arteries. As the arteries widen, the blood flows more freely, and your blood pressure eventually begins to drop! Hypertension also decreases as a result of exercise because your heart, a muscle, is getting a workout. The stronger your heart becomes, the greater its’ ability to pump blood thru the arteries, which also helps to reduce blood pressure!
The last reason we’ll cover today is the fact that exercise LOWERS TYPE II DIABETES RISK! You’ve probably read that the increase in the prevalence of Type II diabetes is becoming a WORLD-WIDE HEALTH CRISIS! The complications of adult-onset Type II diabetes poses a serious risk to your physical well-being! By engaging in regular physical exercise, you improve your body’s ability to metabolize glucose, the key to preventing this disease!

Just a quick introduction here with a lot more to come shortly…
I received my first barbell, dumbbell and weight set when I was 13 years old…from my parents as a Christmas present. It was a love thing that happened almost over night. I was hooked on getting strong and lean and I loved the way I felt after working out!
That little 110 lb. set took me to places a young teenager rarely gets to go…for example, a part-time job working with men at age 14. Wrestling champ of my school at age 15 in the 165 lb. weight class. Immediate attention from the football, wrestling and track & field coaches as a freshman in high school!
It was almost like MAGIC! All I had to do was workout with the weights, stretch for 10-15 minutes/day, stay humble and watch many doors open because I was built like a man by age 15!
Fast-forward to today…at age 66, I am still doing the same thing. My health is excellent, I eat what I like..in moderation….and am NOW working as a personal trainer on the Island of Oahu in the beautiful State of Hawaii!
